I used to be 'President' of an unofficial Shania Twain Fan Club and in November 2000 we had Shania's World Tour Drummer 'JD Blair' fly over from the USA to help us raise money for BBC Children In Need.
Over 300 Drummers from different parts of the UK came to Bournemouth to re-create an oversized stage routine from Shania's 1999 World Tour. Here are some photo's to show you some of what went on before and during The Grand Finale with the sound of Shania singing 'If You're Not In It For Love' filling the Pier Approach area, along with a lot of drums.
LOTS OF PICTURES TO LOAD
PLEASE BE PATIENT______
Alan was waiting with The Presidential Limo at Bournemouth to take JD, Martyn ( in limo with Pudsey Bear) & myself to the Pier Approach. Adrian went ahead to get things ready.
The Dolphins Marching Band was the first of many different bands to entertain outside before going into rehearsals at Jumpin Jaks.
After The Dolphins, JD opened the event from the balcony of the Surf Diner. This was from where our MC for the day, Dave Street from BBC Radio Solent announced the displays. JD is pictured here with Dave and the night before Dave interviewed JD over the phone for his radio show.
(Sadly Dave 'passed away' earlier this year, (2004)
All day, except for a short break to watch a samba band outside,
JD met every drummer and rehearsed them in the routine.
Martyn and myself helped out as well. JD is pictured below with our Conductor for The Grand Finale, Alasdair Malloy, Principal Percussionist for The BBC Concert Orchestra.
It was almost time to put the drummers to the test and all that we were waiting for was the sound of ("If You're Not In It For Love) I'm Outta Here" to fill the Pier Approach area. Not all the drummers needed help with this routine.
The 4 Drummers with JD, were on stage with him and Shania, with the rest of the band of course, at Wembley in 1999, doing the routine for real. ( Martyn is in backround)
The Deputy Mayor of Bournemouth, Councillor J. Courtney and Superintendent Bompass with Chief Inspector Hart of Dorset Police, were on hand to see this event come to an end.

for Alasdair to start the Grand Finale.
The picture above is from The Daily Echo and if you scroll up and put cursor on it you will see a close up of JD, myself and the 4 Shania Boys as I called them, in action. Martyn is behind the third drummer along.

The USA Flag was flown for JD
The Canadian Flag For Shania.
The 'Presidential' limousine was used earlier in the year to help with a long weekend in Dorset for a Scottish teenager who was brought out of a coma by Shania's music. Martin, his parents and sister enjoyed free travel, free accomodation and free visits to tourist attractions. Martin, his Mum and Grandmother returned to Dorset during the November for a surprise meeting with JD Blair at our home.
Top picture shows Alan, the owner, with the 'Presidential Limousine' waiting to pick up everyone during 'Martin's Dorset Visit' in June 2000. Left hand *picture is Martin and myself outside The Military Museum in Dorchester (Limousine is in the background). Right hand picture shows JD Blair and Martin in our home during November.
This page was constucted in 2000 but has been altered to give background information plus the additional information about Martin from Scotland.
